On Sunday (January 15) the Super-G is on the agenda. Immediately afterwards, young athletes from all over the world will demonstrate their skills at the Junior World Ski Championships. From January 16th to 25th, the races will take place on the legendary pistes around St. Anton am Arlberg.
Ski World Cup visits the Arlberg
A highlight right at the beginning of the year are the historic Kandahar races in St. Anton am Arlberg. The legendary descent starts at over 2,000 meters, almost 700 meters in altitude and more than 2 kilometers the route meanders to the Karl Schranz finish stadium in the middle of St. Anton. The slope has a maximum gradient of 78% and promises a spectacular race. The conditions are good, which was also confirmed by the FIS during the snow check on New Year’s Day. The fans and racers can look forward to exciting downhill and super-G matches on January 14th and 15th.

The Arlberg Kandahar Races – tradition meets modernity
The Arlberg is rightly considered the cradle of alpine skiing. The first traces of tourism can be found here as early as the 19th century, and in 1901 the Ski Club Arlberg was founded. 20 years later Austria’s first ski school is opened in St. Anton am Arlberg. In the same decade, namely 1927, the first Kandahar race takes place in St. Anton. By the way: The name Kandahar goes back to a British officer, the “Earl of Kandahar”. And even today, the competitions on the legendary Karl Schranz route are referred to as the Arlberg Kandahar races. With the Junior World Championships, another top event joins the successful history of skiing on the Arlberg. The tradition of ski racing literally meets the future in January in St. Anton am Arlberg.
Living in a traditional family business
Not only skiing on the Arlberg can look back on a long tradition. The Hotel Die Arlbergerin and our Pension Der Steinbock also have a long history. The ibex is more than 300 years old and therefore exudes the charm of a typical alpine farmhouse. Enjoy the traditional feel-good atmosphere without having to forego comfort. All rooms are bright and friendly furnished. As a Tyrolean family business, the focus is on personality both in the hotel and in the guesthouse. Every winter we welcome skiers from all over the world and ensure a wonderful break away from everyday life. We look forward to welcoming you to the top events in January.
