A New Highlight in the Alpine Calendar

The Arlberg Ultra Trail Run premieres in August 2027. Six distances from 10K to 100K follow the legendary Arlberg Trail, one of the most scenic long-distance hiking routes in the Alps, connecting St. Anton am Arlberg with Lech Zürs.

The event is organised by Plan B Event Company, together with the tourism boards of St. Anton and Lech Zürs. Plan B also organises the Zugspitz Ultra Trail by UTMB, one of the largest alpine trail events in the Alps with over 5,000 participants. The Arlberg Ultra is built on the same experience.

One Region. Two Seasons.

Five Villages. One Arlberg.

In winter, these five villages form one of the world's greatest connected ski areas. In summer, the Arlberg Ultra Trail Run connects them on foot — the same mountains, the same communities, a completely different speed.

Your Basecamp

Hotel Die Arlbergerin.
1 km from the Start.

I have been welcoming guests to St. Anton for years. When I heard about the Arlberg Ultra, I knew exactly what runners would need: a warm bed one kilometre from the start in the centre of St. Anton, a proper breakfast before dawn, and somewhere to dry your kit after a long day on the trail. We also organise a shuttle directly from the hotel to the start line. That is what we offer. — Barbara Kometer, Hotel Die Arlbergerin

We Answer.

When does the Arlberg Ultra Trail Run take place?
The inaugural Arlberg Ultra Trail Run takes place 20–22 August 2027 in St. Anton am Arlberg. The event is planned as an annual race from 2027 onwards. Details are still being finalised by the organisers — we will update this page as confirmed information becomes available.
What distances are available?
Six distances are planned: 100K, 80K, 60K, 40K, 25K, and 10K. The 100K starts and finishes in Lech Zürs following the full Arlberg Trail. The 80K starts in St. Anton and finishes in Lech. Details for the shorter distances are to be confirmed by the organisers.
Where is Hotel Die Arlbergerin in relation to the start?
Hotel Die Arlbergerin is 1 km (approximately 12 minutes on foot) from the race start in St. Anton village. We also organise a shuttle from the hotel to the start line — included for all guests. Breakfast is available from 6:30, so you can fuel up properly before heading to the start line.
When does registration open?
Race registration is managed by the Arlberg Ultra Trail Run organisers. We recommend securing your hotel room now regardless — availability near the start in St. Anton will be very limited. Book your basecamp first, then confirm your race entry when registration opens.
What does the hotel offer specifically for runners?
Breakfast from 6:30 on race morning, shuttle to the start line (included), secure gear and drop bag storage, a gear drying room, laundry service, late checkout post-race, and guided trail route suggestions from Barbara. We have thought through race weekend so you don't have to.
Who organises the Arlberg Ultra Trail Run?
Plan B Event Company, together with the tourism boards of St. Anton am Arlberg and Lech Zürs. Plan B also organises the Zugspitz Ultra Trail by UTMB, one of the largest alpine trail events in the Alps with over 5,000 participants.
Barbara's Notes

How to Prepare for the Arlberg Ultra Trail Run

I have been watching guests arrive at the Arlberg for trail running for years. The ones who have the best race are not always the fastest — they are the ones who know the mountain before race day. Here is what I tell every runner who stays with us.

01
Run the Arlberg Trail before race day

The Arlberg Trail from St. Anton to Lech is the backbone of the race route. Run at least one stage — the St. Anton to Stuben section — before race day. The trail is well-marked and takes about 2.5 hours at a comfortable pace. You will learn where the technical sections are and how your legs respond to the altitude.

02
Arrive at least 3 days early

St. Anton sits at 1,304 metres. The race goes up to 2,800 metres. If you arrive the day before, your body has not adapted. Three days gives you time for two easy altitude runs, proper sleep, and a relaxed gear check. Our training camp package is built around exactly this window.

03
The weather changes fast at the Arlberg

August at the Arlberg is not summer in the valley. A clear morning can turn to rain and 8 degrees by noon at the high passes. Bring a proper waterproof jacket — not a packable wind shell. The mandatory gear list exists for a reason. I have seen runners underestimate this every year.

04
Eat before you leave the hotel

We open breakfast at 6:30 on race day. Eat a full meal. The first aid stations will be well-stocked, but the section from St. Anton to Stuben is exposed and long. Your body needs fuel from the start, not from the first checkpoint. I will make sure the kitchen is ready.

05
Use the shuttle — do not drive to the start

Parking at the start area will be limited and stressful on race morning. We provide a shuttle from the hotel to the start line. Leave the logistics to us. You need to be calm and focused, not hunting for a parking space at 5:30 in the morning.

06
Train on the Valluga descent

The descent from the Valluga area is the section that breaks legs in the second half of the race. If you can do one training run that includes a long technical descent — 800 to 1,000 metres of downhill — your quads will thank you on race day. Ask me at the front desk and I will mark the best training routes on a map for you.
