Questions About Powder Skiing at the Arlberg

Still have a question? We would rather you ask than wonder. Send us a message · +43 5446 2243

What is the best time of year to visit St. Anton am Arlberg?

St. Anton runs two strong seasons. Winter (December to April) is world-class skiing — 305 km of slopes, reliable snow from the end of November, and the Arlberg at full capacity. The ski season officially opens in late November and runs through to mid-April depending on conditions. Summer (June to mid-September) is quieter, greener and genuinely beautiful — hiking, biking, alpine lakes, and cable cars running all season. If you want the mountain without the crowds, July and August are remarkable. Both seasons work well from our accommodation. We close between seasons to recharge — just like you probably should too.

Is the accommodation in St. Anton suitable for solo travellers?

Absolutely. Both the Hotel and the Pension have single rooms, and the atmosphere at Die Arlbergerin is relaxed enough that coming alone never feels awkward. No mandatory group dining, no forced socialising — breakfast is yours to enjoy at whatever pace suits you. A lot of solo guests come specifically because of the adults-friendly setup. No noise, no chaos, just the mountain and your own schedule. If you want company, St. Anton has plenty of it. If you don't, we will not push it.

How do room prices work — do they change depending on when I book?
Yes, we use dynamic pricing — rates adjust based on season, demand, length of stay and how far in advance you book. The earlier you book for peak weeks (Christmas, New Year, February school holidays), the better the rate. Mid-week arrivals and stays of 7 nights or more typically offer better value than weekend short breaks. All current prices are shown live in our booking system with no hidden additions. The rate you see is the rate you pay, plus the local tourism tax which is set by the municipality.
Can I get from St. Anton to the slopes without a car?

Yes, and easily. A free ski bus stops directly outside our door every 15 minutes during the ski season and takes you to the lift stations and back. The Nassereinbahn — one of the main entry points to the Ski Arlberg — is also just 700 metres on foot, which most guests walk in ski boots without issue. In summer, the St. Anton Mobility Card (included with select packages) covers all local and hiking buses across the region. A car is genuinely not necessary for your stay here.

What dining options are available during the stay?

Breakfast is included in all rooms at both the Hotel and the Pension — a generous regional buffet served until 10:30, with homemade jams, Tyrolean cheeses, fresh bread and hot options. In winter, the Hotel restaurant is open in the evenings for à-la-carte dining with a menu built around Austrian classics and seasonal produce. Pension guests get priority table reservations at the main restaurant. In summer, the Bistro opens with a sunny terrace. Every Tuesday year-round is Fondue Night — very popular, book early. If you want to eat out, St. Anton has excellent restaurants within easy walking distance and we are happy to recommend based on what you are looking for.

Is St. Anton am Arlberg worth visiting even if I do not ski?

es, genuinely. In winter, non-skiers find plenty to do — snowshoe hiking, night tobogganing, horse-drawn carriage rides, the village itself, and the spa and sauna facilities at the hotel. The après-ski scene is world-famous and you do not need skis to enjoy a drink at the MooserWirt terrace in the afternoon sun. In summer, skiing is not part of the picture at all — it is purely about the mountains, the trails, the lakes, and the pace of alpine life. Some of our most loyal guests have never put on ski boots.

What is the minimum stay at Die Arlbergerin?

There is no fixed minimum stay for standard room bookings at the Hotel or Pension — you can book a single night if you need to, though most guests stay between 4 and 7 nights. For whole-house exclusive bookings at the Pension (groups up to 30), a minimum of 7 nights applies for peak winter weeks. For short city-break style stays, mid-week in shoulder season works particularly well and tends to offer the best rates. If you are unsure what works for your trip, just ask — we would rather help you plan the right stay than have you arrive with the wrong expectations.

How do I get to St. Anton am Arlberg from major airports?

St. Anton sits directly on Austria's main rail corridor, which makes it one of the most accessible ski resorts in the Alps. From Innsbruck Airport (roughly 1 hour away), there are regular train connections. From Munich, there are direct trains running approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Zurich Airport connects in around 2 hours 45 minutes by train. For UK travellers, Innsbruck has direct and charter flights during ski season. No car rental needed — St. Anton train station is a short taxi or bus ride from the hotel, and we can advise on transfers if you let us know your arrival details when you book.

Are there any deals or packages for longer stays in St. Anton?

Yes. We regularly run seasonal packages — the most popular being "stay 7 nights, pay for 6" in summer, which includes the St. Anton Summer Card. In winter, early booking rates and ski week packages are available directly through our booking system. Booking direct always gives you access to our best rates, which are not available on third-party platforms. If you have a specific length of stay in mind or a budget to work within, send us a message — Barbara responds personally and can sometimes put together something tailored that is not on the website

What makes accommodation at Die Arlbergerin different from other hotels in St. Anton?

A few things that are genuinely hard to find elsewhere in St. Anton. The adults-friendly concept at the Hotel (from age 10) means a calmer, quieter atmosphere than most ski hotels in the village. The Pension next door is a 300-year-old farmhouse — authentic Tyrolean character that no amount of renovation budget can recreate. And the whole-house exclusive booking at the Pension for up to 30 guests is unique in St. Anton — most chalets in the area cap at around 20. Beyond the properties themselves, Barbara and Mathias are here, personally, every season. This is not a managed hotel group. It is a family home that has been welcoming guests for three generations — and that comes through in everything, from the breakfast buffet to the way the team remembers your name on day two.
