Mountain guide at the Hotel Die Arlbergerin

Biography:

Hello, I’m Torsten! I live in Pettneu am Arlberg, right between the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall Group. I’m a Tyrolean mountain guide , cross-country ski instructor, and wildlife biologist .
Before deciding on a life as a mountain guide and ski instructor, I worked as a scientist conducting research in Greenland and Norway. My field of study involved the behavior of lynx, reindeer, and musk oxen. For the last few years, I taught at a secondary school. Now I’ve settled down as a Tyrolean mountain guide .

Enjoy a leisurely hike with me through the Tyrolean mountain meadows or a mountain hut summit hike; I would be happy to accompany you. It is my particular wish to tell you about the unique natural and cultural features of the Arlberg region.

As a biologist, I have extensive knowledge of animals, plants, and human physiology. I would like to share this knowledge with my guests, especially topics that are particularly evident in the St. Anton mountains. Examples include:

  • Climate and biodiversity crisis:
In the Alps, the interaction between biodiversity, climate change, and land use is particularly pronounced. In this context, the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Two-thirds court Landeck-Alpine farming in the Stanzertal” is a very interesting topic.
  • Evolutionary theory:
If you want to better understand the theory of evolution and the underlying processes, the Arlberg is an excellent place to explore it.
  • The body at altitude:
If you are interested in the physiological adaptations and influences to which the body is exposed when we move to the mountains, this is also a topic that I would like to convey to my guests.

Hiking program July 8, 2019 to July 13, 2019

These days, St. Anton is showing its most beautiful side. Due to the snowy winter and cold spring, there is still a lot of snow in the mountains, which makes hiking more difficult, but at the same time brings the flowers into late bloom. On the north side of the Stanzertal valley, thanks to the limestone bedrock, we find blossoms in every color, while on the south side of the valley, on the less calcareous soil, the mountain slopes are red because of the dominant alpine roses. On these three hikes, we will seek out the best spots to admire this floral splendor and enjoy the most beautiful views of the Verval Group and the Lechtal Alps. Stopping at mountain huts and alpine pastures adds an extra touch to these hikes.

Monday, July 8th, 6:30 PM Regular meeting – Tour planning with Torsten

Tuesday, July 9th – Alpine Pasture & Meadow Hike: Wolchererhöhe – Putzenalm

Moderate hike – approx. 5 hours walking time.
Meeting point: 9:30 am at the hotel reception. We will hike uphill together along a forest path. Upon reaching a clearing, we will continue uphill on a sunny trail towards Wolchererhöhe (1940 m). There, we will enjoy the view, the tranquility of nature, and the exceptional variety of wildflowers. We will then descend to Putzenalpe (1700 m) before continuing downhill along a forest path towards the valley and back to Hotel Die Arlbergerin.

Wednesday, July 10, 6:30 PM Regular meeting – Tour planning with Torsten

Thursday, July 11, 2019 – Alpenrosenweg and Rendlalm

Moderate hike – approx. 4 hours walking time.
Meeting point: 9:30 am at the hotel reception. We will travel together by bus to St. Anton Terminal West and from there take the Rendlbahn cable car up to the Rendl mountain station. After enjoying the view, we will begin our hike along the Alpenrosenweg (Alpine Rose Trail) to the Rendlalm alpine pasture. From there, we will descend via a forest path back to Hotel Sonnbichl.

Friday, July 12, 6:30 PM: Regular meeting – tour planning with Torsten

Saturday, July 13, 2019 – Summit hike/World Heritage tour Sattelkopf

Moderate hike – approx. 5 hours walking time.
Meeting point: 9:30 a.m. at the hotel reception. We will take the village bus together to St. Anton Terminal West. From there, we will walk towards the Rosanna Gorge. Once across the bridge, we will hike uphill via the Tanunalpe towards the Sattelkopf summit. Upon reaching the top, we will enjoy a fantastic view and a hearty snack. We will discuss the UNESCO World Heritage-listed two-thirds-of-the-table alpine farming tradition in Stanzertal. The return journey follows a beautiful hiking trail downhill towards Moostal and from there back to Hotel Sonnbichl via the enchanting Moostalweg trail.
